An e-bike is a bike plus a motor, a battery, and a computer. Kept serviced, it stays fast, safe, and holds its range for years. Neglected, small faults become expensive ones. Here's everything worth knowing before you book.
E-bikes are ridden harder and further than regular bikes - the motor makes it effortless to rack up kilometres, which wears the drivetrain and brakes faster. Regular servicing catches that wear early, keeps the motor and battery healthy, and protects your warranty.
Every service we do is logged to your Owner's Terminal, so you always have a full history - useful for warranty claims and for resale.
Whichever comes first - time or distance. When in doubt, book a minor service.
Chain wear measured, cassette and chainring checked, derailleur indexed, gears shifting clean. The motor puts extra load here - it wears faster than on a regular bike.
Pad thickness, rotor condition, lever feel. Hydraulic systems bled if needed. E-bikes are heavier and faster, so braking is safety-critical.
Diagnostic scan for error codes, torque and speed sensors checked, bearings and mounting inspected, power delivery tested against spec.
Capacity tested against rating, battery-management system read, cells balanced, contacts and mount cleaned and checked for corrosion.
Display, wiring loom, connectors, and sensors inspected for water ingress, chafing, or loose plugs - the most common cause of intermittent faults.
Wheels trued, spoke tension checked, tyre wear and pressure set. Heavier bikes are harder on wheels and tyres than pedal bikes.
Headset and bottom-bracket bearings checked, all bolts torqued to spec, frame and fork inspected for cracks or damage.
Motor and display firmware updated to the latest stable release, stored error codes cleared, settings restored to spec.
Full wash, drivetrain degreased and re-lubed, contact points protected. A clean bike lasts longer and faults are easier to spot.
Not going as far on a charge as you used to. Could be the battery, tyre pressure, or a dragging brake - worth a check.
Clicking, grinding, or rattling. Noise is the first symptom of wear - cheapest to fix when caught early.
Spongy lever, squealing, or longer stopping distance. Never ride an e-bike with brakes you don't trust.
Any fault code means the system has detected a problem. Bring it in and we'll read it and clear the cause.
Chain jumping or slow to shift usually means a stretched chain or worn cassette - and under motor load it gets worse fast.
Power dropping or surging is often a loose connector or sensor fault. Easy to diagnose, and safest fixed promptly.
The battery is the most expensive part of your e-bike, and how you treat it decides how long it lasts. Keep it between 20% and 80% charge for daily use, avoid leaving it flat or on the charger for weeks, and store it somewhere cool and dry - never in freezing or baking heat.
Charge with the supplied charger only. If capacity or range drops noticeably, bring it in for a free health check before it gets worse. See the warranty terms for the exact battery cover.
We service every brand we sell, plus most major imports. Prices confirmed at drop-off.
Wipe the frame down and keep the chain lightly oiled. Never blast the motor or battery area with a pressure washer.
Set to the range printed on the sidewall every couple of weeks. Correct pressure means more range and fewer flats.
Supplied charger only, room temperature, and don't leave it plugged in for days. Top up before it hits empty.
Somewhere cool and dry, out of the weather. For long storage, leave the battery around half charge.
Quick squeeze of the brakes and glance at the tyres before you head out. Thirty seconds catches most surprises.
If it's due, book it - even if nothing feels wrong. Servicing is far cheaper than the repair it prevents.
The questions we get every week, answered properly. If yours isn't here, get in touch - we'll add it.
Yes. Every bike we sell meets the federal EN 15194 standard - 250W continuous, pedal-assist only, 25 km/h cutoff. That makes it legal as a bicycle in every Australian state and territory. We provide a printed conformity certificate at point of sale.

We service most major e-bike brands regardless of where you bought them. Bring it in for a $30 diagnostic and we'll quote for any work needed.
Always use the supplied charger. Charge in a well-ventilated area, away from flammable materials. Don't leave on charge overnight. Don't charge a damaged or swollen battery - bring it to us. See the full battery safety guide.
Range depends on assist level, terrain, rider weight, and weather. As a rule of thumb: divide the manufacturer's claim by 1.5 for an honest commute number. Our Owner's Terminal tracks your actual range over time.
Quality lithium e-bike batteries are designed for 500-800 full charge cycles before noticeable capacity loss - that's 5-7 years of typical commuting. Replacement batteries are available for every bike we sell.
No. Compliant 250W e-bikes are treated as bicycles under road rules. No licence, no registration, no CTP. Helmet is mandatory.
Not legally required, but strongly recommended given the value of modern e-bikes. See our insurance guide for current Australian providers and what to look for.
Depends on your state. Permitted in QLD, NT, ACT (10 km/h max), and TAS (under-12s + accompanying adult). Not permitted in NSW, VIC, WA, SA except for under-12s. See your state regulations page.
If you didn't find what you needed above, get in touch and we'll answer the same day.
Shellharbour's e-bike specialist, run by riders who started this shop because nobody else in the Illawarra was doing it properly.
Three years ago there were two ways to buy an e-bike in the Illawarra: drive 90 minutes to Sydney, or order a grey-market import sight-unseen and hope it didn't catch fire. Neither option was great.
We're riders. We commute. We've fixed bikes in our garage at 11pm because there was nowhere local to take them. So we opened a workshop, then started carrying the bikes we'd actually buy ourselves - properly certified, properly serviced, properly supported.
Today we sell, service, and stand behind every bike that leaves our floor, with full EN 15194 documentation on every bike. That matters more now than ever.
We don't sell anything that can't be ridden legally on Australian roads. No grey imports, no firmware unlocks, no winks.
Every bike we sell is one we can service ourselves. No 'send it back to the manufacturer' fobs - same-week turnaround on all repairs.
We ride the same coastal salt and dust you do. Our service intervals and recommendations are tuned for the local environment, not generic manufacturer copy.
Once you buy from us, you're in the Owner's Terminal - warranty tracked, service history recorded, parts lookup always one tap away. No expiry.
Email, phone, or come in. We answer everything within one business day.
Our Flinders workshop carries every bike in the range. Free parking out front.

Service appointments, walk-in repairs, parts pickup. We service every brand we sell, plus most major imports.
30-day change-of-mind on bikes, 14 days on accessories. Easy process, no restocking fees if returned in original condition.
Buying a bike is a big call. We make returns simple so you can buy with confidence.
This policy is in addition to your statutory rights under the Australian Consumer Law - those rights apply regardless of what's stated here.
Box, foam, accessories, paperwork. Mostly intact is fine; pristine isn't required.
Up to 20km of riding is fine. Significantly worn drivetrain or scratched paint is not.
Order number is enough - we keep a record of every sale.
Send your order number to our contact email. We'll confirm eligibility and arrange collection or drop-off.
We pick up free from anywhere between Wollongong and Kiama. Outside that, $99 flat for NSW, $199 elsewhere.
Refunded to original payment method once we've inspected the bike. Usually faster.
If a bike comes back with crash damage, missing components, or significant wear we'll deduct the repair/replacement cost from the refund. We'll itemise any deductions before processing - no hidden charges.
Yes if the return is for a faulty item or our error. No if it's change-of-mind - original shipping (if any) is non-refundable.
Yes - exchanges welcome and we'll waive any return shipping. Just mention 'exchange' when you contact us.
If you return one item from a multi-item order, we refund that item at its individually-listed price. Bundle discounts may be recalculated.
The refund goes back through the same finance provider. They handle the adjustment to your repayment schedule. Usually takes 1-2 business days longer than a card refund.
No - provided the item comes back in resalable condition (per the criteria above), there are no fees beyond return shipping.
Nothing in this policy limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. If a product fails to meet a consumer guarantee, you're entitled to a repair, replacement, or refund regardless of the change-of-mind terms above. More on consumer rights at accc.gov.au.
We ship every bike Australia-wide, fully insured, mostly pre-assembled. Free across NSW. Pickup from our Flinders workshop is free and same-day.

If anything looks off, photograph the damage and the box. Email us within 24 hours and we'll handle the claim.
Most riders are riding within 10 minutes. If you're unsure, our Owner's Terminal has a step-by-step video walkthrough.
Yes. You'll get a tracking link by email and SMS the moment your bike leaves our workshop. The link updates in real-time through to your door.
Sorry - bikes are too large. We need a street address and someone to sign for it. Workplace addresses are fine.
The courier will leave a card and attempt redelivery the next business day. After two missed deliveries, the bike is held at the local depot for 5 days for collection. We'll forward the depot details by SMS.
Yes if the bike hasn't been collected by the courier yet - usually within 4 hours of ordering. After that, it's possible but incurs a redirection fee. Email us as soon as possible.
We don't ship internationally at this stage. Australian addresses only.
Run through these five questions to find out if your e-bike is road-legal in Australia. Takes 60 seconds. No personal info required.
Every Australian state and territory uses the federal EN 15194 standard as the baseline for what counts as a 'bicycle' instead of a 'motor vehicle'. If your bike fails any of the five criteria below, it's classified as a motor vehicle - which means it can't legally be ridden on roads, paths, or cycleways without registration, CTP, and a motorcycle licence.
This is a self-check. If anything's unclear, bring the bike to our Flinders workshop and we'll inspect it for free.
Before starting, find your motor's continuous power rating (usually on a sticker on the motor housing or in the manual), confirm the throttle behaviour, and check the speed cutoff in your bike's display settings.
Look for a sticker on the motor - usually at the rear hub or down by the bottom bracket. It should say something like '250W' or '250W rated'. Peak power can be higher (often 500W+) - that's fine. The CONTINUOUS rating is what matters.
If your bike is rated 350W, 500W, 750W, or 1000W continuous, it does NOT meet the federal standard. State rules can differ and change over time, so check the current requirements with your state or territory transport authority before relying on any higher-wattage exception.
This is the 'pedal-assist' requirement. The motor should only provide power while you're actively pedalling. As soon as you stop pedalling, the motor should cut.
Throttle exception: NSW allows throttle assist up to 6 km/h (walking pace start). QLD and SA have a separate exception for older 200W power-on-demand bikes. Every other state requires pedal-assist only with no throttle.
Pedal-assist must stop providing power when you reach 25 km/h. Above that, you can keep going under your own power, but the motor must not contribute.
Check this on your bike's display - it usually has a maximum-assist-speed setting. Many imported bikes ship with this set to 32 km/h or higher; that needs to be reset to 25 km/h to be legal.
This includes firmware mods, dongles, magnet-on-spoke tricks, jumper-wire bypasses, and 'sport mode' apps that disable the cutoff. ANY of these makes the bike non-compliant - and most insurers will refuse a claim if they discover the modification post-incident.
If you bought the bike second-hand, ask the previous owner directly. Common indicators of modification: the bike runs above 32 km/h on motor only, the speed display reads zero or a wildly wrong number, or the controller has visible aftermarket connections.
Reputable retailers provide an EN 15194 conformity certificate at point of sale. If you bought from us, this is in your Owner's Terminal under Documents. If you bought elsewhere, check your purchase receipt and original packaging.
Without documentation, you may be roadworthy but you'll struggle to prove it during a roadside check. Police in some states may ask you to show compliance during an inspection, so keep your documentation accessible and check what your state or territory requires with the relevant transport authority.
Your bike is not currently road-legal. Depending on which check failed, you may be able to bring it back into compliance (e.g. resetting the speed cutoff, removing aftermarket modifications). If the underlying motor is rated above 250W continuous, the bike cannot be made compliant and shouldn't be ridden on roads or cycleways.
Get in touch - we'll do a free in-person inspection at our Flinders workshop and tell you exactly where you stand.
You're road-legal in every Australian state and territory. Keep your conformity certificate accessible (a phone photo is fine), and make sure your insurance reflects the bike's actual value. Insurance guide here.
Not legal as a bicycle in any AU state. Requires motorcycle licence + registration. Can't be retrofitted to compliance.
Power output stays the same - just longer range. These are fine provided the original motor and controller are unchanged.
Almost universally non-compliant and cannot be made compliant. Check the rules for your state with the relevant transport authority.
DIY motor swaps must use a 250W continuous motor and a controller with a 25 km/h cutoff to be road-legal.
Every bike we sell is covered by component-specific warranties - frame, motor, battery, and electronics. Plus lifetime support through the Owner's Terminal.
Warranties are tracked automatically in your Owner's Terminal. You don't need to register anything separately - buying from us activates the cover.
For service or claims, contact us via the contact form, by phone, or in person at the workshop.
Anything that fails because it shouldn't have. Covered for the term shown above.
We don't charge labour for repairs covered under warranty.
If the bike isn't safe to ride, we'll collect it and return it free of charge within the Wollongong-Kiama corridor.
Frame, fork, or component damage from impact, fall, or collision. Insurance handles this.
Aftermarket controllers, tuning dongles, firmware bypasses, non-OEM batteries - all void warranty.
Chains, cassettes, brake pads, tyres, cables - replaced as part of normal servicing.
Scratches, fading, chips. We're a workshop, not a panel-beater.
Battery warranty is the most common claim and the most often disputed across the industry. Our policy is straightforward: if your battery's measured capacity falls below 70% of its rated capacity within 2 years OR 500 full charge cycles (whichever comes first), we replace it free of charge.
Capacity is measured at our workshop using a calibrated discharge test - bring the bike in for a free check any time.
Call, email, or use the contact form. We'll triage and confirm next steps within one business day.
We'll inspect at the Flinders workshop. Pickup available within the Illawarra.
If covered, we'll repair or replace at no cost. We deal with the manufacturer directly - you're not chasing them.
Interest-free finance, lay-by, and standard buy-now-pay-later through our retail partners. Most riders are approved on the spot.
A quality e-bike is a multi-thousand-dollar purchase that often pays for itself in saved fuel and parking within 18 months. Spreading that cost over the same window makes the maths even better.
We've partnered with three lenders that between them cover most needs: Humm for interest-free up to 24 months, Afterpay/Klarna for short-term split-payment, and standard credit for longer-term arrangements.
Interest-free for 6, 12, or 24 months on purchases $1,000+. Soft credit check, instant approval. Best for bikes.
Pay in 4 instalments over 6 weeks. No interest, no credit check. Up to $2,000.
Pay in 4 instalments or in 30 days. Up to $1,500. Good for accessory packs.
Reserve a bike with 20% deposit, pay off over up to 6 months at no extra cost. Bike held for you until paid in full.
If you've got pre-approved finance from your bank, we accept it like cash. Bring the documentation.
For purchases over $1,000, Humm's 12 or 24 month interest-free option works out cheapest for most people. Soft credit check (won't affect your score), instant approval, no fees provided you pay on schedule. Apply at checkout or in person.
Add to cart, choose your finance partner at checkout. Approval in seconds.
We'll walk you through Humm or Afterpay on a tablet. Out the door in 15 minutes if approved.
Call us. Tell us the bike and the timeframe - we'll point at the cheapest option for your situation. Genuinely no commission to us either way.
Humm uses a soft credit check; most applicants with no major defaults are approved. Afterpay and Klarna don't run formal credit checks but rely on payment history. Lay-by has no credit check at all.
Humm runs a soft check, which doesn't affect your score. Afterpay and Klarna don't appear on credit files at all. Bank pre-approval may affect your score depending on the lender's process.
Yes for all options, no early-repayment penalty on any of them. With Humm 24mo, paying early avoids the monthly account fee.
Some employers participate in workplace bike-purchase schemes (RemServ, Smartsalary, etc.) that allow bikes to be salary-packaged. We're set up to invoice these schemes - bring the paperwork and we'll handle it.
Yes - trade-in credit comes off the bike price, then finance applies to the remainder. Net effect is lower monthly payments. Trade-in details.
E-bikes are one of the most-stolen vehicle categories in Australia per dollar value. Standard home contents insurance often won't cover them. Here's what actually works.
A modern e-bike is a $3,000-$10,000 piece of equipment. Most home contents policies cap mobility-equipment claims at $1,000-$2,000 and exclude theft away from the home. If you ride to work, lock up at a cafe, or store the bike in a shared garage, your standard insurance probably isn't covering you.
This guide covers what to ask for, who currently offers proper e-bike cover in Australia, and how to actually get a payout if the worst happens.
Older policies pay depreciated value. Insist on new-for-old up to 3 years old.
The big one - many home insurers exclude theft outside the home address.
Useful if you ride on holiday or commute beyond your usual area.
Crashes, drops, transport damage. Usually optional but worth it.
Lithium battery damage and theft are commonly excluded - check carefully.
If you hit a pedestrian, injure another rider, or damage a vehicle.
Before buying a separate policy, call your home insurer and ask three questions: (1) What's the per-item limit for bicycles and e-bikes? (2) Am I covered for theft away from home? (3) Is lithium battery damage included? If any answer is unsatisfactory, you need a specialist policy.
Frame, serial number, accessories, both sides, drivetrain. At purchase + after each big upgrade.
Original purchase, accessories, every service. Insurers ask for proof of value AND condition.
Sold Secure Gold or Diamond rated. Most insurers require this for theft cover.
Bike Vault, BikeRegister, or your insurer's own database. Helps recovery and proves ownership.
For low-value bikes, your home contents policy may cover replacement adequately. For anything over $2,000, or if you ride away from home regularly, specialist cover is usually worth it.
Degradation, no - that's wear and tear. Fire damage from a defective battery can be covered, but only if you're using a manufacturer-approved charger and the battery wasn't aftermarket. Lithium fires from non-compliant imports are commonly excluded.
Most personal e-bike policies exclude commercial use. You need a commercial e-bike policy (CETA, Allianz commercial, or your gig platform's own cover). Riding for income on a personal policy means you're uninsured if anything goes wrong.
CTP is for registered motor vehicles. Compliant e-bikes are bicycles under road rules and don't have or need CTP. If you cause injury to someone, you'd claim under the liability portion of your e-bike or home contents insurance instead.
If your bike was over $3,000 and you ride away from home regularly, get a specialist policy. Compare specialist providers like Velosure and QBE Bike Insurance for the situations that matter - theft anywhere, new-for-old, accidental damage - and confirm exactly what each policy covers. Pricing varies with the bike's value and the cover you choose, so get a current quote before you commit.
Get credit toward a new bike - or cash if you're not buying. We accept most legal e-bikes regardless of where you bought them, including ours.
Trading in your old e-bike (or regular bike) is the easiest way to upgrade. We assess on the spot, you walk out with credit or cash. No haggling, no listing-it-yourself hassle, no random buyers turning up at your house.
We accept e-bikes from any brand, plus quality regular bikes. Battery condition is the biggest factor in valuation.
Anything that meets the federal EN 15194 standard. Better condition = better offer.
Road, gravel, MTB, commuter - anything over $1,000 retail in good order.
Standalone battery trade-ins for upgrades or capacity increases.
Some grey-import e-bikes have value as parts donors. Bring it in for a quote.
We can't legally on-sell these. We may take them for parts at a nominal value.
Crash damage to the frame writes a bike off.
Drop in any time during opening hours. No appointment needed. Bring keys, charger, and any accessories.
Battery health test, motor diagnostic, frame inspection, drivetrain wear check.
Cash or credit toward a new purchase. Credit gets a 10% bonus.
No obligation. If the offer doesn't suit, take the bike home.
Trade-in credit toward a new bike includes a 10% bonus over the cash offer. Example: an offer of $1,500 cash becomes $1,650 in store credit. Credit doesn't expire and is transferable.
We can give a rough range over email if you send photos and the model. Final offer requires in-person assessment - battery condition is too important to assess remotely.
Bring it in anyway. A non-running bike often just needs a controller swap or charger - we can offer trade-in value based on the working components.
Sometimes. Non-compliant high-power bikes have limited resale value but may be worth taking for parts. We're upfront about the value and the reasoning.
Yes - and we encourage it. Customers who trade up every 2-3 years end up with newer batteries and better warranty cover for similar lifetime cost.
Australia's e-bike laws are changing fast. NSW just dropped from 500W to 250W. WA is crushing non-compliant bikes. We track every state so you don't have to.
Power cap dropped to 250W. Active enforcement begins 2026.
EN 15194 standard. 250W / 25 km/h enforced since 2012.
Aligned to federal standard. 200W throttle exception for older bikes.
Active crackdown on non-compliant imports. Penalties to $1000.
Federal standard with optional 200W power-on-demand allowance.
Federal standard. Helmet required, lights required after dusk.
Federal standard. Cycleway-friendly, integrated with road network.
Federal standard. Limited cycle infrastructure, road riding common.
An e-bike is only a bike in the eyes of the law if it meets the federal standard EN 15194 - 250W continuous, pedal-assist only, 25 km/h cutoff. Anything more powerful or throttle-driven is a motor vehicle, which means it can't be ridden on roads, paths, or bike lanes without registration, insurance, and a licence.
Each state and territory then layers its own enforcement on top. Some are tightening (NSW, WA), some have been stable for years (VIC, QLD). This hub is updated whenever a state changes its rules.
Australian e-bike laws are evolving fast. Subscribe to be notified when laws change in your state.
The rules around what's road-legal in NSW can change. In general, EN 15194 250W pedal-assist bikes are treated as bicycles - always confirm current requirements with Transport for NSW. Here's where the line is generally drawn.
Continuous rated. Confirm the current power limit with Transport for NSW.
Pedal-assist must cut off here. Throttle assist banned above 6 km/h.
Compliant bikes treated as bicycles. Helmet required at all times.
Ridden anywhere a regular bicycle can go: roads, cycleways, shared paths.
Walking-pace start assist is permitted on otherwise-compliant bikes.
Same rules as a regular bicycle. Both rider and child must wear helmets.
Motorbike classification. Requires registration, CTP insurance, and a motorcycle licence - which won't be issued for these bikes.
Pure throttle (no pedalling) above 6 km/h is illegal regardless of motor wattage.
Disabling the firmware cutoff makes the bike non-compliant and uninsurable.
Helmet offences carry a fine - check the current amount with Transport for NSW. Strictly enforced.
Only e-bikes meeting the 250W EN 15194 pedal-assist standard are treated as bicycles in NSW. Confirm the current power rules and any transition arrangements with Transport for NSW.
Police can seize non-compliant bikes at the roadside, and penalties can apply for using an unregistered motor vehicle on a road. Check the current penalties with Transport for NSW.
Additional requirements such as compliance plates may be proposed in future. Confirm any current or upcoming requirements with Transport for NSW.

Victoria has run on the federal EN 15194 standard since 2012 with no major changes. Stable, predictable, and a good baseline for what compliant e-bikes look like in Australia.
Continuous rated. Pedal-assist only. Aligned to federal road vehicle standard.
Motor must cut off here. No throttle assist permitted at any speed.
Treated as a regular bicycle. Helmet mandatory. Lights mandatory after dusk.
Permitted on roads, bicycle lanes, shared paths, and most rail trails.
Power rating applies to motor output, not bike weight or carrying capacity.
Most rail trails permit compliant e-bikes. Check individual trail signage.
Throttle without pedalling is not permitted at any speed in Victoria. Walking-pace exemption from NSW does NOT apply here.
Considered a motorcycle. Requires registration, full motorcycle licence, and CTP insurance.
Same as regular bicycles - restricted from grade-separated freeways.
Government review chose not to align with NSW's 6 km/h throttle-assist exemption. Pedal-assist only remains.
Authoritative source: VicRoads - Electric bicycles
Queensland follows the federal EN 15194 standard with a small concession for older 200W power-on-demand bikes. Stable rules, popular for tourist e-bike rentals on the Gold Coast and Cairns.
Continuous rated, pedal-assist. 200W power-on-demand allowance for pre-2017 imports.
Pedal-assist cutoff. 6 km/h throttle exemption applies to pre-2017 bikes only.
Compliant bikes treated as bicycles. Helmet required. Footpath riding permitted unless signed otherwise.
Roads, cycleways, shared paths, and most footpaths.
Queensland is one of the more permissive states for footpath cycling.
Older imports with throttle-style assist are still legal if power is limited to 200W and you're not exceeding 25 km/h on motor only.
Pre-2017 exemption only applies up to 200W. Anything more powerful is a motorcycle.
Strictly enforced. Helmet offences carry a fine - check the current amount with the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR).
Child seats and tag-alongs OK. Doubling on a single-rider bike is not.

WA actively enforces e-bike compliance - police can seize non-compliant bikes at the roadside, and fines can apply. Check the current penalties with the Department of Transport WA. Here's how to stay legal in WA.
Strict EN 15194. No throttle exception. No older-bike grandfather clause.
Hard cutoff. Police can seize bikes that exceed during roadside testing.
Non-compliant bikes need motorcycle licence + registration - neither is issued for typical e-bike form factors, making them effectively un-rideable.
Bring receipts and the EN 15194 conformity certificate when riding new builds - police are spot-checking.
Once compliant, treated identically to a regular bicycle.
WA is harder than most states - no walking-pace exception.
Most popular grey-market imports fall here. These are being seized.
Includes firmware mods, dongle bypasses, magnet tricks. Treated as 'use of unregistered motor vehicle' - fines and seizure can apply. Check the current amount with the Department of Transport WA.
If your bike is seized roadside, you must arrange transport. Riding it away is a separate offence.
Police may carry out roadside checks on non-compliant e-bikes. Confirm current enforcement activity and locations with the Department of Transport WA.
Using an unregistered motor vehicle on a road carries a fine, and seizure can apply. Check the current penalty amounts with the Department of Transport WA.

South Australia runs the EN 15194 standard with a small concession for 200W power-on-demand bikes. Adelaide's growing cycleway network makes legal e-bikes a strong commute option.
Continuous rated. 200W power-on-demand variant also recognised.
Pedal-assist cutoff. Power-on-demand bikes capped at 25 km/h motor-only.
Treated as a regular bicycle. Helmet required. Lights required at night and in low visibility.
Full access to roads, cycleways, and shared paths.
Older imports with throttle assist permitted if power capped at 200W.
Compliant e-bikes welcome on the city's separated cycleway corridors.
200W exemption is the ceiling. More powerful throttle bikes are motorcycles.

Family-run and based in Coolum Beach, Queensland, CRUZR splits its range cleanly between EPAC road bikes and off-road machines. That split is commercially useful - the public-road copy for the EPAC bikes is more disciplined than most competitors'. Component-level credibility comes from Bafang motors, Samsung batteries and safety-certification references on product pages.

EPAC models are supplied to align with EN 15194:2017 - 250W continuous rated, pedal-assist only, 25 km/h cut-off, and any throttle limited to 6 km/h walking pace. Product pages cite UL 2849 system and UL 2271 battery certification. Off-road models are described as intended for private property or off-road use.

Its V3 line - DNA, Harlem, Scrambler and Bagus, in Performance, Ultra and EN-certified variants - is backed by the strongest aftersales structure in the set: bike registration, a claim checklist, a warranty-transfer path and 70+ stockists and servicing partners across Australia.

2 years or 10,000 km on all parts and electrical components. Register the bike to activate the warranty. Claims need a detailed fault description, photo evidence with serial numbers where possible, proof of purchase or order number, and the battery key for workshop work. If you bought through a stockist, go back to that stockist first - they can lodge the claim on your behalf after diagnosis. Warranty can transfer to a second owner if the bike is registered and the original proof of purchase is kept. Covers parts and labour, but not transport or third-party service charges. Contact 0485 985 941 / support@fatboybikes.com.au.
7-day returns for online purchases only, return shipping at the purchaser's cost, original packaging required (no refund without it). All returns need written consent before shipping - start at hello@fatboybikes.com.au.
The compliance page states all bikes meet the NSW required standards, with linked UL 2271, UL 2849 and EN certificates. SGS certificates name Fatboy Bikes Pty Ltd as certificate holder, including 500W continuous-rated EPAC configurations. The Dec 2025 legislation update said the DNA V3 was already built to EN 15194, with the V3 line transitioning to EN-compliant specs.
The DNA (EN 15194) story is the easiest nationally. Higher-power variants need careful state-by-state messaging - NSW sale certification is not the same as road-use legality in every state, especially during the transition period.

Born in 2024 as a tech-forward lifestyle label built around 'Electric Escape Vehicles'. The most differentiated brand on security - real-time GPS, remote motor shut-off, geofencing and app control - with an explicit caveat that it does not guarantee road-legality in every state.

Flight Risk (Flight Risk Co Pty Ltd, ABN active Oct 2024) is the newest and most tech-forward brand in the set. It leads on connected-bike security - real-time GPS, remote motor lock, geofencing, password control, app integration and an 'ST Charger' - rather than motor and battery alone. That gives it a genuinely different merchandising angle from the fat-tyre lifestyle brands.

Flight Risk's own FAQ states it does NOT guarantee that any e-bike is road-legal in your state or territory, and tells riders to check local law. Carry that caveat through to every listing - do not soften it.
